My alarm is set for 6.45am… when I head down to prep breakfast for my 13-year-old son. I take my gut health supplements on an empty stomach, including probiotics. Our guts are the foundation of our health; breast cancer treatment totally messed up my gut and I’ve done a lot of work on repairing it. I then have a homemade collagen protein bar before working out and an iced matcha latte for a boost.
Protein-pancakes are my go-to breakfast… and I tend to eat them later in the morning. They’re made with two egg whites, a scoop of vegan protein and a splash of coconut milk – served with berries and Nush protein natural yog.
I learned my biggest wellness lesson when… I was diagnosed with triple-positive breast cancer in February 2024. It was such a shock to me and made me realise that without your health, you have nothing; you can spend your life worrying about many things, but when you are diagnosed with a life-threatening illness, nothing really matters except getting well. Look after your body – you only have one place in which to live.
Please stop worrying about weight so much… I used to fret about how I looked all the time, but when I became ill, I felt scared of losing so much weight. Now, I exercise for my health and not for aesthetics. Exercise plays a massive role in keeping us well – it reduces the risk of breast cancer recurrence, which is amazing! There is nothing better than being outside on a run with my two dogs.
It doesn’t matter how healthy your lifestyle is… the future is unknown. I’ve found that the only way you can deal with curveballs is by focusing on what you can control.
Exercise-wise, you’ll find me… doing three strength workouts a week and I also love a Peloton workout.
I always thought that I handled stress well but… my oncologist said that stress was probably a big factor in my cancer, which came as a surprise to me. These days, I try to take time for myself each day with a round of tapping to calm my nervous system. I highly recommend it.
My homemade lasagne is a hit in our house for a mid-week dinner… and it’s packed with carrots, mushrooms, onions, garlic, peppers and a herby passata for maximum nutrition. I use organic mince and make my own dairy-free bechamel with oat milk and gluten-free flour. I layer it with gluten-free, high-protein lentil pasta sheets. It’s absolutely delicious.
I tend to go to bed at 10pm… after relaxing with my family watching the latest Netflix series. We’re currently rewatching Lost. Even though I’ve watched it all before, I can’t remember any of it! Just before bed, I’ll put my phone away, do my night-time skincare routine and then read a few pages of the latest Sophie Kinsella novel.
