The first thing I do in the morning is… make a matcha latte full of collagen and butter. I sit in bed and sip that while filling in my daily gratitude practice – this is my treasured alone time before a crazy day. Then, I’ll try to get outside, even if it’s just standing in the garden. It’s really important to get morning light into your eyes to regulate your hormones.
I usually fast until lunchtime... and then eat a meat-based, high-fat diet to regulate my glucose levels.
Squatting is great for regulating blood glucose… so I try to do 50 squats a day after meals. I also just installed a gym in my garage, so I aim to lift heavy weights twice a week.
Surviving cervical cancer and a radical hysterectomy taught me… the power of natural healing. I had major surgery but enlisted the services of a functional medicine doctor and adaptogenic mushrooms to help me recover. I made a promise to myself that if I survived, I’d expand my business and focus more on doing what I love. Now, I take my cues from the rhythm of the seasons, everyday experiences and the changing world around us. Nature is our teacher.
The biggest wellbeing lesson I’ve learned is… the power of positivity. I feel really strongly about being a positive presence in the world and being open-hearted. I’m also a firm believer that what you eat really affects the way you feel, so it’s important to be conscious of that.
I never drink coffee… having swapped it a long time ago for functional mushrooms. Instead, I drink one of my own coffee alternatives, which uses chicory root as the base and provides energy from cordyceps. They are amazing at giving you energy without that strung-out caffeine feeling.
My top tip for managing stress is… have a dance party. Get out of your head and body every once in a while, and let yourself just feel some music. I often have a dance party with my boys in the kitchen to work away any stress.
My evening routine starts with… snuggles with my sons before lights out at 8.30pm. Whatever our age, I think a cuddle before bed does all of us a world of good. After that, I love having a hot bath, and before bed, I always give myself a foot massage with my own sleepy butter. I rub it into my feet 20 minutes before lights out to help me sleep well. Then, it’s time to read in soft light so my body begins to produce melatonin before I fall asleep.
