The one thing that’s made me a better runner is… community. The benefits for my own running are endless: creating consistency which builds my running fitness and providing support and coaching to train effectively. Running with people of different abilities challenges me and ensures that I don’t overdo it.
When I’m too tired to work out in the mornings, I… listen to my body. Then I can decide whether to get more sleep or teach a class and schedule in a nap later. I’m aware of how important sleep is for recovery, and how important recovery is for performance and progress – so I prioritise it highly.
The one thing I always have in my gym bag is… BCAAs (branched-chain amino acids) mixed with a litre of water. It keeps me hydrated while working out, but also helps to maintain and build lean muscle, aids recovery and supports my immune system. Protein intake is so important across all our life stages, especially for female physiology. I try my best to ensure I eat enough and supplement when appropriate.
