You know those people who walk into your life and make a character-building impression you don’t forget easily? Apple TV+’s latest comedy drama Cha Cha Real Smooth – which won Sundance’s Audience Award in January and currently has an impressive Rotten Tomatoes approval rating of 91% – delves into the nature of these complex, visceral connections through the lens of its protagonist Andrew (Cooper Raiff), an aimless 22-year-old graduate who’s trying to find his path in life. His dead-end job at a butcher and as the local bar mitzvah hype man are as sad as they sound, but then he meets Domino (Dakota Johnson) – a mother to a teenage daughter with autism – and we’re pulled into the world of their fascinating, confusing connection.
“Trying to find your footing in life is a story we can all relate to, but what elevates this film is Johnson’s excellent performance,” says Stylist Loves writer Kiran Meeda. “Where Andrew sees Domino strictly as a potential love interest, she opens his eyes to her reality as an older woman who makes sacrifices for her daughter and fiancé, deals with depression, acts on impulse but ultimately, somehow, knows what she wants. Will-they-won’t-they isn’t the point of this story, but you’ll love the rollercoaster ride of their relationship.” Watch on Apple TV+ now
