Get ready for your most stylish dinner ever, courtesy of Laura Jackson
If you’re one of Laura Jackson’s 129k Instagram followers, you’ll know the TV presenter, cookbook author and founder of lifestyle brand Hoste could teach most of us a thing or two about entertaining. Back in the early days of lockdown, she launched the #MakeAMealOfIt movement, encouraging people to find joy in cooking and tablescaping – and now, the queen of at-home hosting has created her first dinner kit.
Available to pre-order from 9am tomorrow, the limited edition ‘Make A Meal Of It’ Friendsgiving Hoste Box will be filled with everything you need to put on an autumnal feast or ‘friendsgiving’ meal. On the menu? Beef or wild mushroom bourguignon, mashed potatoes and heritage carrots for two, followed by sticky toffee pudding with salted caramel sauce and clotted cream. There’ll also be a bottle of Saft craft cordial, Wax Atelier candles, Irish linen napkins and menu cards – plus exclusive cocktail recipes and a playlist to set the mood. The box is a collaboration with Restaurant Kits, which launched this summer to help the hospitality industry survive the pandemic, and can be pre-ordered until 10 October for delivery throughout November. There are only 300 boxes available so your Saturday sleep-in might have to take a raincheck. £62 each, restaurantkitsuk.com

David Attenborough’s vital documentary lands on Netflix on Sunday, and it’s a must-watch
The national treasure that is Britain’s most famous nature documentarian has something to tell you. In David Attenborough: A Life On Our Planet, which debuts on Netflix this Sunday following a cinematic release, the usually chipper 93-year-old is deadly serious. Over the course of his incredible career, he says, he has witnessed the near-destruction of our planet as “a result of bad planning and human error”. In between revisiting archive footage of his past expeditions and documentaries, he implores us all to do something about it before it’s too late.
Crucially, A Life On Our Planet doesn’t just show us the effects of climate change. Yes, the film addresses the rampant environmental changes caused by human practices such as industrialisation, deforestation and over-fishing. But just as you’re falling into a pit of despair, the veteran broadcaster pulls us back from the brink with a message of hope: he explains the many things we can do – on both a macro and micro level – to address the crisis humans have created before it’s too late. It is absolutely vital viewing. Because as Attenborough says, it’s not just about saving our planet – it’s about saving ourselves. David Attenborough: A Life On Our Planet is on Netflix from 4 October
