Zero-shame loungewear to leave the house in
When we’re deep in hibernation mode, we can’t always be bothered to faff around with fashion. The solution? Chic, comfy staples that give us that on-the-sofa feeling – even when we’re forced to go outside

The hoodie

If you’ve spent the last three weekends in your most beloved but must-not-leave-the-house hoodie, allow us to suggest a more elevated substitute. Made from toasty merino wool, this vibrant number is both soft and smart (it also comes in navy and pale grey, but the Aperol orange is our favourite). Wear with tailored trousers and your favourite puffer/faux fur/camel coat for a refined but relaxed January look. £69, Cos

The dress

There’s more to loungewear than hoodies and tracksuit bottoms. Made from soft jersey, this relaxed navy sweatshirt dress is the ultimate throw-on-and-go piece for those days when you can’t muster the brainpower to decide what to wear – and the striped trim on the sleeves has the retro 90s vibe all sewn up. Add box-fresh trainers and detailed hoops to fool people into thinking you’ve actually made an effort. £43, Navabi

The tracksuit bottoms

The 2010s were a difficult decade, but you know what we should be thankful for? The rise of athleisure, which means we can now wear trackie bottoms out and about without feeling like slobs. These luxe joggers have a laidback weekend feel, but can also be snuck into more casual workplaces without raising eyebrows; a cashmere jumper and elegant gold jewellery will help them cross the office-appropriate frontier. £80, Me+Em

The jumper

One thing the Scandinavians do very well – alongside electro-pop, minimalist interiors and strong social safety nets – is loungewear. Swedish brand Filippa K has an entire range devoted to simple, stylish pieces that can be worn on the sofa, in the fitness studio or on the street: we love the crewneck sweaters, which come in shades both obvious (navy; grey melange) and unexpected (like this pale meringue pink). From £77, Filippa K

The T-shirt

If we had our way, we’d happily wear the same comfort outfit until February. But since we can’t wear our old pyjama tops to work, we’re relying instead on minimal-effort winter staples. This ribbed jersey top is more interesting than your average T-shirt, thanks to an A-line cut, side slits and dolman sleeves: slip on a blazer before heading to the office, then change into your comfiest leggings and slippers as soon as you get home. £12.99, H&M

Make Daphine your go-to for cool, contemporary jewellery, says Stylist’s fashion editor Polly

I’m always on the lookout for Goldilocks jewellery brands that are neither fantasy-land expensive, nor disconcertingly cheap. Daphine, founded by Damasia Ball and Philippine de Follin in 2017, hits the sweet spot. With prices starting at £40, it’s obtainable luxury at its finest (and the perfect companion to stacks of gold Missoma).

One of my favourite pieces is the chunky 18ct gold-plated Oli ring, which has also found fans in influencers Monikh Dale and Jessie Bush. Low-key yet satisfyingly statement-making, I could wear it all day, every day. It looks beautiful alone – but makes even more impact alongside other jewellery in clashing metals. £65, Daphine

Head to new shopping platform Immaculate Vegan for elegant, ethical clothes and accessories

Finding stylish, sustainable fashion brands was once an arduous task – but the rise of conscious shopping platforms means it’s easier than ever to track down ethical clothing and accessories. The newest kid on the block is Immaculate Vegan, which stocks sophisticated pieces by contemporary vegan brands. Our picks? This Votch watch (£120), Fablou backpack (£65, was £90) and waterproof kimono by On Good Authority (pictured, £265.50).
